Every podcast appearance can do three things: build your reputation with listeners, create a lasting mention of your name, and earn a link from the show's website. Podcast backlinks are one of the most natural, sustainable ways to build authority. Here's how to get the most from each episode.
This guide is part of our authority link building series, and builds on how to get booked on podcasts.
Prioritize shows that are relevant to your audience and publish show notes on their own website, not just on podcast apps.
Create a resource tied to your topic: a checklist, guide, calculator or template on your site (linkable assets). Mention it on air and offer it for the show notes.
When you confirm the booking, send:
Share specific stories, one useful takeaway, and mention your resource naturally once. See interview preparation.
Turn each episode into LinkedIn posts, short video clips and a blog summary that links to the episode and your resource. See video marketing and long-form content.
Listeners who've heard you as a guest will recognize your ad. See podcast advertising.

Review it quarterly to see which shows bring the most value, and pitch similar ones.
Aim for a steady rhythm, such as one or two appearances a month. Over a year, that's two dozen new mentions and links from relevant sites. It's part of the expertise layer in the Authority Stack.
Many podcasts publish show notes or episode pages that link to the guest's website or a resource they mentioned. The strength of the link depends on the podcast's site and relevance.
Politely send the host a short bio, your website and one relevant resource link when you confirm the booking. Most hosts are happy to include them.
They can be, especially from established, relevant shows with their own websites. They also create brand mentions and entity signals, and bring interested listeners to your site.
A resource related to the episode topic, such as a guide, checklist or tool, or your founder bio page. Avoid generic home pages when a more useful page exists.
