Marketing in several regions means juggling different holidays, seasons, languages and time zones. A global content calendar keeps everything organized, so the right message reaches the right market at the right time. Here's how to build one.
This guide is part of our international expansion series, and extends our Canadian seasonal marketing calendar.
| Column | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Date and local time | When it goes live in each market |
| Market / region | Where it runs |
| Language | Which version |
| Channel | Social, email, blog, radio, OOH, PR |
| Theme or campaign | What it's about |
| Global or local | Shared content or market-specific |
| Owner | Who's responsible |
| Status | Draft, translation, review, approved, live |
| Lead time | When work must start |
For each region, list:
A common split is a global backbone with local moments layered on top.
Schedule posts and emails for local peak times. Stagger global announcements. Make sure someone can respond to comments and enquiries during each market's working hours.
Leave space for timely local content and be ready to pause scheduled content during crises or sensitive news (crisis communications across markets).
| Campaign: "Warm Welcome" | Canada | Australia | Nigeria |
|---|---|---|---|
| Season in July | Summer | Winter | Rainy season |
| Local hook | Canada Day, patios | Winter comfort | Indoor gatherings |
| Channel priority | Radio, OOH, Instagram | Social, podcasts | Radio, WhatsApp, Instagram |
| Language | English and French | English | English, with local expressions |
Monthly: check upcoming dates and content status. Quarterly: review performance by market and adjust themes (KPIs across markets). Useful tools are covered in tools for scaling marketing across regions.
A shared plan that schedules content and campaigns across multiple countries or regions, accounting for local holidays, seasons, languages, time zones and production lead times.
Plan by hemisphere. A winter campaign in Canada may need to be a summer campaign in Australia or South Africa at the same time of year.
Shared spreadsheets, project management tools and social scheduling platforms that support multiple time zones and accounts all work. Choose what your team will actually use.
Big campaigns often need two to three months or more for localization, approvals and media booking. Always-on social and email content can be planned a month ahead.
